Creating content is actually more complex than it is simple. I understand this. I mean, sure, you can put pretty photos up but are they relative to your brand voice and what you’re trying to accomplish in your business. [insert stress sigh]. Finding new ways of creating content changed the course of my business.
Over the course of 5 years, I dove in headfirst to understand how to market my brand/business with so much intention. Let me tell you, although most may feel that it comes “natural” to some, it doesn’t mean it’s easy. I would hear so often “I wish I was as natural as you are talking or sharing.” Although I do lean towards the extraverted side, it doesn’t mean it comes natural to put myself out there in this type of way. There’s so much work that goes into creating content. If you don’t have an intention of why you need/want to do it for your business then you’ll find every effort…pointless.
Here are just a few reasons why creating content has changed the course of my business:
It gave potential clients insight and clarity on what I did, who I was, and what I could do for them. I saved A LOT of time and HEARTACHE. Literally, I did, because I showed the potential client everything they needed to know so they could decide whether or not I was the right match. They could decide that before even contacting me. So, if I wasn’t, they could walk away and not have wasted their own time. Yet, if they were, it was like a match made in heaven. That was the case. It made working so pleasant! Clarity was just the beginning of creating content in my business.
I remember the days when I would cringe after giving people my website address or instagram address. I thought, ‘man, they are not going to be impressed at all.’ I thought, ‘I have so much more to offer than my online presence shows.’ So…I had to do the work to show it. I did, and it paid off. I was most of all proud to send the to an online presence that really reflected the value I offered. Confidence was the next phase for creating content in my business.
I fully understand how important online presence was becoming. I remember being out with a friend once and she was looking for a service online. She would open up a page and literally at a GLANCE would make a decision of whether or not she wanted to look into their service a little more. It was a rude awakening as a business owner [wedding photography at the time]. I thought to myself ‘wow, that’s how much time people give us to impress them. That’s it! Not even a second. That’s what I’m working with here.’ It made me eager to apply ways to make the best FIRST IMPRESSION I could possibly have when others looked for my service. I wanted to care about the things other people in my market didn’t care about. Making a first impression was the final missing piece to creating content for my business.
Then of course, after the consistency, came the rewards. I began to work with a lot of people that were connected to me as a person. They respected and valued my work and in return, I too respected and valued them. My brand awareness also lead me to open doors and insane opportunities. Such as becoming a featured artist on a large online blog. Other rewards came in the form of clients feeling really proud to share my page to others because they knew I would show up for their friends as I did for them.
Closing thoughts:
