It’s one thing to produce good work, but it can be far too easy to become accustomed to feel like you’re a hamster on a wheel, running in circles, doing the same thing over and over again. Taking a minute to pause and think through your whys and the meaning behind what you’re doing will help change your focus and reignite a new passion in your work. Asking myself these reflective questions have allowed me to step back and ultimately produce better work.
A study from the University of Oxford has shown that happy workers are 13% more productive than those who aren’t. The overall message of the article stated, “The researchers found that happy workers do not work more hours than their discontented colleagues – they are simply more productive within their time at work.”
So, here are a few reflective questions to ask yourself and a few tips to go along with it:
When you unravel this thought/answer…use this to remind yourself often of why you continue to strive in the type of work that you do. You will need this in order to keep you going when it gets hard. We need to remind ourselves often of why we do what we do so we can continue to produce in the highest form possible. It is the very thing that will keep us going when circumstances around us are hard or challenging, and feel that we just don’t know what to do next. It will carry you through.
This is such a necessary question to ask yourself. When you discover the answer, you need to dig deep as to why you are or why you’re not. We have an internal standard for ourselves. Although we don’t always meet that standard of excellence, it’s important to evaluate the roadblocks that are happening in order for us to meet them. When we are happy with the work we are producing, we aren’t as concerned with the opinions and approvals of others. If you’re only living to impress others and meet their approval, you’ll end up disappointed every time because we are human.
Acknowledging where you are strong and where you are weak in producing excellent work is vital. It will allow you to see the areas you can use support in. Sometimes we can spend way too much time focused on what we can’t do. Those things can become so overwhelming and could fog us into believing we are not great at all, when really, we are just not great in certain areas. Getting support in those areas will allow you to focus on your strengths and therefore you’ll be producing at the highest, most focused, level of greatness.
Asking the right reflective questions will lead you to answers that you’ve been unable to clarify. Producing better work is essential to our growth and our belief in ourselves. We have to believe that we can do the things we were designed to do. It takes work to trust ourselves, but when we finally do, the skies the limit for us all.
Enjoy your journey of unraveling areas that have been blocking your way to producing quality work, we cant’ wait to see what comes from you trusting in your greatness.
