Today is National Stress Awareness Day, and I don’t know about you, but I think we could all use a little easing of the stress in our lives.
Our days and calendars are filled with meetings, responding back to texts and emails and responsibilities with our families, spouses and never-ending to do lists. We are so BUSY, that we tend to neglect ourselves and sometimes our loved ones in the process, because we want to make sure we get everything done.
There are a few ways to manage and handle it, though, as it comes. These are a few things I do for easing the stress in my life when the pressure is high.
Most of us are on our phones and computers all day. Stepping away from the computer, even if just for a few minutes for a walk or quick interaction with a coworker can make all the difference. Mental breaks are so necessary for productivity, great ideas and your overall health and well-being.
Whether you’re dancing it out to a song on the radio or getting in more controlled cardio at the gym, make sure you get a few minutes of activity in. Getting the endorphins flowing through your veins will help position you for enough energy and focus to keep going when the days are long. Movement and activity will ease your stress every time.
I can’t stress enough [no pun intended] how important it is to plan ahead, whether it’s content or scheduling out appointments for your family. Planning ahead is getting in front of possible mishaps that can, and eventually will, occur, in order to ease the stress in your life. It will set you up for success every time. But here’s a curveball…have you planned your breaks ahead of time? Your time off? Your getaways? There has to be room in your schedule for things outside of day to day agendas.
Spending time with my husband and kids is another way for me to ease the stress in my life, and spend quality time with them. It’s a way for us to step away without the distractions, doing a variety of things. We go to church together on Sunday mornings. Sometimes, my daughter and I will spend time together cooking in the kitchen. Movie nights once a week are a must. Walking our dog together. The little moments for us are so important. It’s about making room for them, and allows me to detach from the stressful demands of business life. It’s a great way for everyone to ease the stress in my life.
My faith is another thing that fuels me. Not just in the stressful moments of life, but the good times as well. It centers me. It directs where I go and the decisions I make. At the end of the day, I know the pressure isn’t all on me.
We will all experience stress at some point or another in our lives. How we combat it and prepare for it is the key to making it manageable when it comes up.
How do you ease the stress in your life and take time to unwind from your busy days?
