Who would have ever known that picking up a camera-imagining that it could possibly bring in a “few extra bucks” so I could stay home with my firstborn would lead me to a 13+ year journey…certainly not me.
I wish I could explain to you the depth of what I feel when I see a camera. I don’t see an object or a cool piece of machinery. I see so much more.
I’ve always been a creative person by nature. I tried just about everything you could think of before I picked up a camera but the camera opened up a world of creativity I could never imagine. It made me see things differently. Yet it took almost every ounce of everything I was fascinated by and brought it to life! Theatre, art, design, story, writing, fashion… you name it and it had it.
Mind blown to discover that holding a camera in my hand would also mean that people would let me into the most intimate moments of their life. Their families, their marriage, their pregnancies, their business, their self worth and freedom. I see a camera and I see the hundreds of people that I’ve connected with. Not just clients but people in my industry and entrepreneurs. This is by far one of the greatest treasures I’ll ever have holding this camera in my hand…the ability to connect with other people.
I’ve had the luxury of creating extravagant experiences for my clients. I’ve also in the midst of it all, traveled more than I’d ever had in my entire life. This, opening a world to me I didn’t ever know until holding a camera in my hand. Therefore, making me eager to expose my kids to the beautiful world we live in so that they can see the possibilities within reach.
This camera has awakened others. The result of seeing themselves for who they are and what they represent has shaken them to their core. They’ve stood prouder…have fought harder and have seen a glimpse of their future through the result of some portraits that come from holding this camera.
I’ve never felt more driven, more challenged, more curious then when picking up a camera. Nothing prior to it had done what this camera had done for me. I sought to learn, to grow and equip myself. Year after year, I couldn’t put it down. It gave me potential and open doors of opportunity that still continue to blow my mind.
When I see a camera, I don’t just see a piece of equipment that takes photos. I see HOPE, HUMANITY, STORIES, CONNECTION, INTIMACY, STRENGTH, COURAGE, POWER, FAITH, INNOVATION, IMAGINATION, EXPERIENCES, TREASURES, DISCOVERY, DEPTH, TRUTH, ART…and I see…growth and the desire to want others to see these things as well.
