Breonna welcomed her second baby girl last week. Breonna is part of the wedding designers at Blazeny and what we like to call a “mom-preneaur.”
So much crossed my mind as I thought about the season that Breonna is entering [one I found myself in 7 years ago] vs the season I’m entering now. A season I actually never saw coming. I hired a [sort of] full time nanny! My goodness, who am I?! LOL. I celebrate this moment so much because I’ve journeyed through 11 years of business with babies on my hip with crying interruptions and round the clock make it work moments! It has been a struggle but a delight! But mostly it was just really hard. Looking hindsight I do wish there were things I just would’ve been able to tell myself earlier-but I guess you just have to go through them to know!
If there’s anything I could tell myself in that moment and any mom-preneaur making it work throughout the hustle and bustle of life, family, business…here’s what I would say:
- Your kids are your priority: act like it. When we are mom-preneaurs, everything is fast paced and so we insist on our kids being on our time. We are short and frustrated because we are tired and have a pile of to do’s that never ends. But…take a deep breath….look them in the eyes. A few minutes of undivided attention goes a super long way!
- Don’t bite off more than you can chew! If you don’t have a lot of help from others to take your kids for a moment and a lot of the load falls on you-schedule accordingly! Don’t put things on your schedule that you can not complete because it will stress you out and your family will get the worst of you.
- Don’t quit. Learn to rest, not to quit! You’ll feel like quitting time and time again because it’s hard and you feel the pressure on each side. Quite frankly it’s never fun feeling like you’re dropping the ball in some area of your life. But-this will pass. I can’t promise it’ll get easier…you’ll just get tougher and more determined!
- Every minute counts! I learned over time that I had to become more organized with my time. Time management became CRUCIAL if I was going to accomplish anything! Because of this, most people don’t even realize how much I have my kids because it seems as though I’m very active on my business front…truth be told…I just got smarter about my time. Every hour has a purpose-if you don’t tell your time where to go…it will just GO!
- Grace yourself before you break yourself! Although time management is key, it’s not always guaranteed. There will be days that are bad and that seem like nothing was accomplished. Go in prepared and knowing that things may not go as planned and grace yourself when you fall short. As mothers, our time is not completely ours anymore. So-learn to let it go and say to yourself “tomorrow will be a better day” and then flow with your kids and what they’re doing.
Breonna, I couldn’t be more happier for you on this new journey with baby Lincoln. Your girls are just as fabulous and wonderful as you are and they will be extremely grateful to be raised by such a strong go-getter mama! Proud of what you’ve accomplished this far and so excited for what you’re going to conquer with your babies on your hips. So much love! -Rubi Z
