On numerous occasions, I have heard the question “should an established business consider a re-brand?” To put it simply, YES! Established businesses should consider a re-brand for several reasons, but today I want to discuss 3 main reasons.
Several established businesses pride themselves in referrals, and they should! Referrals are a really big deal. Years ago, when someone was referred to another person, it meant so much more than it means now. Why? Well, years ago, we didn’t have accessibility at our fingertips. We couldn’t do a simple search within minutes to find all of the data we needed to know about a person/business. Now we do.
Referrals now are used to put you in perspective, it isn’t a done deal like it used to be. When you focus on re-branding and bringing new/fresh excellence to your business presence online. What if you don’t have the online presence that validates someone’s referral? This is happening far too often now. If someone refers you and they follow up with “but don’t judge them by their social media or website, they are so much better in person” don’t take that as a compliment.
You should consider a re-brand. Competition is rising daily and it’s incredibly frustrating for several of our clients and fellow entrepreneurs. One of the complaints we hear the most is “I was overlooked because of someone else who knew how to present their business better than I can on social media.” Gut-wrenching isn’t it?! How is it that someone who has been in the industry for 15-30 would come in second to someone who has only been in the industry for 2 years? Easily. It’s happening daily. Why? Established businesses seem to ignore becoming relevant, they want to do what they’ve done for several years because once upon a time, it worked, but if Covid taught us anything, it taught us that if you don’t have an online presence in this day in age, you don’t have anything.
It is more important than ever, to fight back. Take action by presenting yourself. The biggest turn-off might be that you feel you’re in some form “starting over” because of the small following. That isn’t so. You can bring an audience up to speed and share the years of knowledge and experience you have in a matter of a month with the right focus and intention. The competition is fierce, stay in the game. If you don’t learn to adapt, you will find yourself falling behind.
When is the last time that you clarified your brand? Are you operating with the same logo you’ve had for years? When people look at your website or online presence, does it send the message that you’re valuable? If you haven’t clarified your brand messaging [what you do, who you’re talking to, why you do what you do], if you haven’t updated your photos and design elements in a while, or if you don’t have a strong and beautiful online presence…it is the time! Displaying value is so important to the success of your established business. What you offer is indeed valuable, but can people recognize that value within seconds? Remember, seconds are all we have to prove to someone that we are the right fit. Can people sense how established, skilled, and knowledgeable you are in the market they are looking into? Well, if you’ve taken a good look and realized how unclear or devalued your business is online, then it is time to take action.
