HOW DID A WEB DESIGNER FROM FLORIDA END UP IN FRONT OF A CALI PHOTOGRAPHER?
It is moments like this that help me to reflect on the power of the WORLD WIDE WEB and how there is no limit to what we can do and who we could work with. It’s actually a thrilling place to be for a creative entrepreneur. While several people view social media in a negative light [not to say I don’t see it the negative, myself] I choose to focus on the positive.
LIKE…LESLIE VEGA and this connection we were able to have.
I’m going to try to explain this crazy way of how we connected. In January of 2019, I attended a workshop in San Francisco California. My biggest take away from the workshop was meeting the most amazing couple and such a powerhouse woman, Rebekkah Rose. I began to follow Rebekkah and only grew fonder of her and the successful event planning business that she pioneered with a team of talented women. Only to discover not even a year after I met her, that she would be battling cancer. I purchased a shirt in support of her fight and when sharing about it, Leslie, who designed the shirt, reached out and we kind of sort of hit it off as well. I’m sad to say that Rebekkah left us this year and left behind a wonderful husband and a tribe of people who will forever have her in our hearts [and I just barely knew her].
Leslie and I started a relationship via instagram and were fond of each other’s creative approaches in the fields that we were in. Later finding out that we actually had a ton in common–including but not limited to—our home aesthetics. We just really vibed and it was easy to begin to cheer each other on. One day Leslie built up the courage to ask me that if I ever needed a web designer, she would be happy to be there for me. The year she shared that with me, I was in a different headspace and therefore, I really didn’t think I needed it or that I would invest in the process of getting a website fully designed BUTTTT 2020 [more of that to come next week].
Needless to say, I hired Leslie as my web designer, and then shortly after working together, Leslie hired me as her BRAND CONTENT PHOTOGRAPHER and flew in from Florida to San Diego California to have a full day experience.
This session will forever mark a special place in my heart. WHY?
I was already shifting a lot in 2020, not just in the things that I was doing but in the MINDSET that I had. I realized exactly what I wanted to do that I’d been holding back from doing fully. She was the first session I put all of my new thoughts into and it almost SEALED IT for me. It was an awakening in my soul that confirmed- “yes, this is it, this is what I really want to do next.” I knew it, but after going through the process with her…there was no doubt.
Leslie, was an amazing client to work with for several reasons, but here are some major ones:
- SHE FULLY TRUSTED ME AND MY PROCESS. I felt the respect and admiration for the work that I would be providing for her, and I felt her eagerness to work with me the entire time. It gives me so much creative drive and vision when clients allow me to understand them and then create a vision that will share their story.
- SHE NAILED THE STYLES. After processing the vision and the story, I narrowed down a few mood boards and created concepts and vision for styling. Leslie REALLY REALLY did her homework and almost nailed those outfits to the T. She kept me in the loop of this process as well, which only allowed me to help navigate little details for the best outcome.
- HER PHOTOS ARE MOBILIZED. Leslie has freed the photos from our collection and she has really given them a place to live. Immediately implementing them on her feed, in advertisement pieces, on her WEBSITE and pretty much anywhere she could put them. I mean, paired with her beautiful sense of style and design aesthetic…she just knew what to do with them and I couldn’t be happier about it! I’ve been so happy with the transition of creating brand content sessions for clients who want to express what they do, why they do it and who they do it for through visual images, and I’ll always be so grateful for the first of those major collections with Leslie Vega, my amazing web designer.
