Three years ago Eddie + Elizabeth had an intimate wedding and said “I do” at the beautiful Santa Barbara Courthouse. For their anniversary we took it back to the roots of where it all began [which you can find HERE]. We knew we wanted a second part/location to their shoot. I was expecting to go into the second half without changes to their wardrobe, but much to my surprise Elizabeth decided to bring a fiery red dress that she wore on one of their first dates together. I couldn’t be happier with the way that this look turned out in the Knapp’s Castle area.
The ruins at Knapp’s Castle are just incredible. Surrounded by the lake and valley views-it becomes quite incomparable. It almost feels like we’ve transported to a different moment in time. Here are a few photographs from this anniversary session in Santa Barbara [Santa Ynez Mountains].
First time shooting at Knapp’s Castle? Here are tips to execute a great session at Knapp’s castle whether you’re the photographer or the couple:
1. Beware of Windy Roads and bring Tennis Shoes:
The drive up is quite a drive -if you don’t like windy roads-be prepared. Heights are pretty high but absolutely worth it. You’ll have to park alongside the road and then hike up [a very small hike] to where Knapp’s Castle is.
2. On site construction:
Here’s the thing…it seems like there has been some construction happening lately, this property is now privately owned but people are still allowed to be on the property. I am not sure how much longer this will be, so if you’ve been wanting to get out there, you probably should soon.
3. Don’t go alone:
Also would recommend not going alone-making sure there are 3+ people is a good idea because although breathtaking, there are people hanging out and seem a little sketchy at times. [This is not to scare you from going-for the most part I’ve never ran into any problems at all, I think you should 100% go-just go prepared].
4. Bring water:
Obviously if it’s hot…it’s HOT, so bring water!
5. Sunset is breathtaking:
We started a bit before sunset in this collection, but of course, the sunset views here are bizarre and absolutely worth aiming for!
Well…enjoy! Share your experience with me if this helped you prepare for your shoot, would love to hear about it! Thanks guys.
