2020 was the year that I decided to finally go for it and invest in a web designer, one of the biggest investments of my career. I knew that it was the right timing and I absolutely knew that I’d found the right designer for me LESLIE VEGA DESIGN. I’m so happy to collaborate with her on this blog post as we share tips on how to prepare to launch a website! Leslie is going to give the best tips from her perspective as a web designer, and I’m going to give my tips as a content photographer. We hope these tips serve as tools to feel better prepared before launching your website!!!
Gather as much content as you can before the design process begins. Preparing for your web launch may actually start before you even book your web designer! This reduces last minute stress of gathering details hours before your launch. It’s never too early to gather your copy, portfolio images and any other details that will complete your site.
Create excitement and anticipation for your followers with a countdown or sneak peeks before launch day.
Review and edit, edit, edit! Once your site is up for review, go through each page and every link to make sure you don’t miss anything before inviting the world to see it. This includes both desktop and mobile views.
BONUS TIP: Prepare your launch mindset. Though you can prepare the best that you can with SEO settings, don’t expect a full blown traffic miracle to happen the day of your launch. The growth of traffic to your new site can be a slow and steady one. Celebrate your launch and rest from all the hard work! Then make sure to continue showing up for your audience to build the right traffic to your site overtime.
Clarify your message and understand who you’re talking to. Going into a photoshoot that will strategically benefit your business really depends on translating a message. The more you understand what your business represents, what you believe you bring to the table, and who you are specifically best suited for…the more successful a photoshoot for web purpose can become and the better your photographer will be at translating that into imagery.
Create variety in your photos. Add some flavor to your photoshoot and refrain from just doing headshots. Bring personality and don’t forget the stock photos! I believe your web designer will be please to have more than enough great photos to use on your site. Assuring that you have photos that speak your language without it having to be a photo of you in it can be great tools for your website visuals.
Styling. DETAILS DETAILS DETAILS. They absolutely matter. Think about how your laptop is going to look and whether or not you need a sleeve that fits your brand style. Really thoughtfully think about your outfits and the message that they will portray [sorry for my non-fashionista friends-but this must happen]. To be clear I’m not saying to dress in a way that doesn’t represent you well, in fact, I believe in sticking to who you are but having a plan and strategy behind what you choose to wear.
BONUS TIP: Connect the web designer with the photographer. I couldn’t stress this part out enough. If you’re working with someone who has a strong vision in their web design approach, such as Leslie does, you will want to connect your photographer and web designer so that your photographer is aware of the direction and needs that the web designer might be wanting to make it an effective design.
