Creating a collection where someone wants you to represent the depths of their soul is always a great privilege. This is what Gaby wanted. She shared the type of season of her life that she was in and what she wanted these photos to represent.
From some of her inspirations and direction, I brainstormed concepts that played with light quite a bit. I wanted to infuse that in this collection. A good contrast of light and darkness. Signifying how light will always pierce it’s way through our darkness. It felt right for her season and her story.
Everything about the wardrobe choices, the tones and the locations created a very neutral color palette. It felt natural and a little authentically exposed. It felt really real and vulnerable.
You can see a little behind the scenes action on how we played with lighting using some kitchen utensils here.
I hope you enjoy this collection, it is one of my favorites. It’s really effortless, but powerful. There were moments where she stood in silence, the light piercing her face, that I, as a photographer will always remember.
