SHIFTING YOUR MINDSET TO PUSH PAST COMFORT

Mindset Shift, entrepreneur lifestyle

There comes a time in your business and career where you’ve reached the ceiling, you’ve caped off. Perhaps not necessarily accomplishing all of the goals in that industry, but where you’ve grown comfortable. You’ve reached a level of complacency that no longer works for where you want to go in life. So do you choose to stay comfortable, safe, and stable? Or will you get uncomfortable and go to the next level of your life? Shifting your mindset is a necessity.

That’s what I had to do as an entrepreneur with my wedding photography business. It was one of the most challenging decisions I’d had to make to walk away from something I’d known and loved for so long. I’d discovered so much about myself through that brand. Closing that chapter almost felt like I was walking away from a part of myself.

Every significant moment or decision in life calls for reflection and processing. So how does shifting your mindset push you to something greater? What can you do to change your perspective to grow?

Shifting your mindset to learn something new

Learning something new can be terrifying when you are a well-seasoned entrepreneur. It is uncomfortable because it puts you in a state of humility. We get used to being GREAT, and when we have to learn new things, we aren’t great anymore. We are back at square A. Most of the time, this very feeling will keep so many skilled and well-educated people from advancing because the thought of starting over is too overwhelming. Do not allow fear to grip you when trying new things. Trying new things will keep you modern and present with our current world, and it will give you an edge over the competitors who choose comfort.

Delegate and outsource tasks that take your peace

I will be the first to admit that I’m terrible at delegating, but I want to be excellent at it, so I’m working towards it. What about you? Perhaps you’re brilliant at delegating tasks. I don’t think it’s the delegation part we have a hard time with, because of course, we’d love to get rid of the giant piles of to-dos. Instead, it’s that we cringe at the idea of it not being done to the level of excellence that we’ve established it to be after so many years. The critical thing to remember is that there’s a learning curve that everyone has to go through for it to be the way you desire. Communication is the most significant key factor to making delegating a success. Watch that people want to help and if they have the posture to help, aim to trust them. Trust is also a significant key component of letting go of tasks. All in all, you have big things to focus on, learn to trust, communicate clearly, and then let it go. You might be surprised as to what happens. Shifting your mindset is where it all begins.

Focus on the WHY

The fear of change can allow us to stay right where we are. Why? Because stepping into unknown territories is not the most desirable experience. You have thoughts like, “we’ve been doing it this way for so long; what will happen if we change?” “What will it look like to operate this way, and how will it affect everything else we’ve established?” When those genuine fears begin to grip you, try to put your focus on the WHY FACTOR. Why DO YOU need to change? What is at stake if you don’t make the shifts necessary? Perhaps these answers might lead you to build up the courage to fight the fears of change that urge you to remain the same.

I remember having a conversation online during that time; I shared about an interview by Will Smith where he’d mentioned that our careers are like Tarzan and the ability to get to where we need to go depends on if we are ready to let go of where we’ve been.

Do you feel a shift coming in your life? Are you ready to let go of where you’ve been comfortably sitting to go where you need to go next?
